The CompTIA's Server+ certification is positioned alongside Network+ Certification certification as a follow-up to the A certification. CompTIA's Server+ exam focuses on advanced network hardware such as SCSI, RAID, SANS, and multiple CPUs. The Server+ exam will certify the knowledge of middle-level and upper-level technicians with 18-24 months of strong IT experience using hardware functionality, including server installation, troubleshooting, support, and second-level support.
The Server+ is CompTIA's certification that focuses on server-specific hardware and operating systems, and certifies technical knowledge in areas such as RAID, SCSI, and multiple CPUs, as well as capabilities with server issues, including disaster recovery. It was developed in 2001, with updates that followed in 2005 and 2009. The eight domains of the Server+ exam are General Server Hardware Knowledge, Installation, Configuration, Upgrading, Proactive Maintenance, Environment Troubleshooting and Problem Determination, and Disaster Recovery.
There is no specific requirement for CompTIA's Server+ certification. It is targeted towards IT professionals with 18 to 24 months of experience. This IT certification is the logical next step for those who have already attained CompTIA's A certification. Although there is no prerequisite for this certification, CompTIA recommends that you possess the A certification. The certification requires you to pass only one exam:
The Server exam is a tough one for sure. You will need a good resource to study from but also some hands on experience will help. The only reason I purchased this preparation kit was because of the great reviews it has been receiving. This kit does the job if your interested in passing the Server exam and you do not have tons of hands on experience. This kit strictly focuses on the actual exam, that is why I believe it is so popular for just a text kit. You don't have to be a technical geek to understand the concepts in this kit.
