About the HRCI SPHR exam

HRCI’s SPHR exam recognizes the ability of an individual to get the knowledge and skills to lead in the human resource management profession. The SPHR exam is for professionals who designs and plans, rather than implements, HR policy.

The HR professional who typically has six to eight years of progressive and increasingly complicated HR experience and breadth and depth of knowledge in all HR disciplines. SPHR exam signifies that individuals possess the theoretical knowledge and practical experience in human resource management necessary to pass a rigorous examination demonstrating a mastery of the body of knowledge in the field. SPHR exam is designed for the HR professional who focuses on program implementation, has tactical/logistical orientation, and is accountable to another HR professional within the organization.

You must have two years of professional HR work experience. For the purpose of eligibility for the HR Certification Institute’s exams, professional experience includes supervisory responsibility and/or creative or original work that requires advanced HR knowledge. The six to eight years of experience do not need to be current or sequential. But more recent experience is more likely to coincide with the exam’s content. What to expect in the SPHR exam?

The SPHR examination is comprised of 225 multiple-choice questions. You will be required to attempt 225 questions in 4 hours. The passing score of the exam is 500 out of 700. The exam format is linear.
