The exam is meant to certify that an individual has the skills necessary to install, operate, and troubleshoot a Linux system and is familiar with Linux-specific concepts and basic hardware.

Here's what you will get

The Linux Server Professional Certification is available to anyone who passes the two required exams: 101 and 102. The exam audience includes IT professionals using the Linux operating system and its associated tools. The exam cover basic Linux installation, configuration, maintenance, applications, networking, and security.

Where do I take the exam?

The 117-101 exam is administered by Pearson VUE at testing centers worldwide. Click here to find a testing center near you.

You must provide your LPI ID to the test centers when registering for an exam. If you do not provide your LPI ID, your exam may not get loaded. You can register for an LPI ID from here.

What is the format of the exam? The exam consists of multiple-choice questions.
What are the pre-requisites of the exam?   While there are no official prerequisites to take the LPIC-1 certification, both LPI and uCertify strongly recommend Linux Essentials exam.
How many questions are asked in the exam? The exam contains 60 questions.
What is the duration of the exam? 90 minutes
What is the passing score? 500

What is the exam's retake policy?

Retake Policy for LPI 117-101 exam is:

  • Anyone who takes an LPI exam once must wait one week before re-taking.
  • Anyone who takes an LPI exam a second (and subsequent) time must wait 30 days before re-taking.
  • Anyone who passes an LPI exam may not retake that exam for at least two years.
What is the validity of the certification? LPI Certification expires 5 years from date of issue, after which the certification holder will need to renew their certification. Candidates are eligible to begin re-certification two years after they complete their certification. Click here for more information.
