How to prepare for IK0-002 exam.

The CompTIA test SK0-002 is intended to certify users who should have at least 18 to 24 months hands-on experience of installing, configuring, diagnosing, and troubleshooting computers. Server+ certifies technical knowledge in areas such as RAID, SCSI, and multiple CPUs, as well as capabilities with server issues, including disaster recovery. Before taking the SK0-002 test, you should practice the following:

  1. Identify the name of several parts in a computer and their purposes and characteristics.
  2. Install the motherboard in the computer case.
  3. Identify several components on the motherboard such as hard disk controller, floppy disk controller, CMOS chip, expansion slots, etc.
  4. Install and remove memory modules on the motherboard.
  5. Install add-on cards such as display card, sound card, internal modem, etc., on the motherboard.
  6. Install external devices such as keyboards, monitors, subsystems, and modem racks.
  7. Install UPSs according to requirements.
  8. Prepare network cables by cutting and crimping them.
  9. Know the function of the following application server models such as Dedicated Application, Distributed Application, and Peer to peer application.
  10. Identify several types of RAM such as EDO, SDRAM, DDR, etc., and communication ports such as serial port, parallel port, USB port, IEEE 1394 port, etc.
  11. Know differences between different SCSI solutions, their advantages, and their specifications.
  12. Install and configure different RAID levels and troubleshoot RAID issues.
  13. Know the basic specifications of and differences between Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network-Attached Storage (NAS) and configure SAN and NAS on the network.
  14. Identify the common server types such as desk server, rack mount server, blade server and know the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  15. Install Network Operating System (NOS) and device drivers on the system.
  16. Install and use service tools such as SNMP, Event logs, System monitoring agents, etc.
  17. Use diagnostic tools such as PING, IPCONFIG, TRACEROUTE, TELNET, etc.
  18. Create server baseline and monitor processor utilization, disk utilization, memory utilization, and network utilization.
  19. Identify bottlenecks on processor, disk, memory, network, etc.
  20. Perform BIOS upgrade on the computer and operating system upgrade to support multiprocessors.
  21. Perform various types of data backup such as full, incremental, and differential backups and restoration of data.
