The Project Management Institute (PMI) has announced the new versions of its PMI-related certification exams, which will be effective from July 31, 2013. These new changes have been triggered after PMI released the new edition of the PMBOK Guide in January 2013. The fifth edition of PMBOK includes 5 more processes and 1 more knowledge area in comparison to its previous version.  The eligibility criteria and application process have not changed. Also, PMI has not notified about any change in the passing score. For more details, visit:

Release Dates of the New Version of PMI-Related Exams

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Examination Update on July 31st, 2013 – Students who have not passed their PMP exam in three attempts prior to July 31 will have to take their exam based on the Fifth edition. For more information, visit the link below:

  • CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) Examination Update on July 1st, 2013 – Students who have not passed their CAPM exam in three attempts prior to July 1will have to take their exam based on the Fifth edition. For more information, visit the link below:

  • The updated versions of the PMI-RMP and PMI-SP exams will be effective from August 31, 2013 – Updates related to these exams are based on the recently completed Role Delineation Study conducted by PMI. Candidates can check the content outline from the links given below:

Candidates appearing for the Exams before the release of new versions

Candidates taking these exams before the release of new versions should take the current exams. These exams are based on the PMBOK Guide Fourth edition, which were published in 2008. Keep the following points in mind:

 

  • Study from the materials based on the PMBOK Guide 4th edition.
  • Make sure that any online or in-classroom preparation courses that you have undergone are based on the PMBOK Guide 4th edition.

Candidates appearing for the Exams after the release of new versions

Candidates taking these exams after the release of new versions should take the updated versions of exams. These exams will be based on the PMBOK Guide Fifth edition. Keep the following points in mind:

  • Study the PMBOK Guide 5th edition. It is now available in the market.

 

  • Make sure that any online or in-classroom preparation courses taken are based on the PMBOK Guide 5th edition.
