Why are static and transient variables not serialized?

January 4th, 2007 by uCertify Leave a reply »

The value of static variables cannot be serialized because the value may be different after deserializing them. There is no single “correct” value for static fields, so serialization simply ignores them. If an object is deserialized, the static fields of that class remain as they were before the deserialization.
