What is the TRUNCATE TABLE statement?

August 22nd, 2009 by uCertify Leave a reply »

The TRUNCATE TABLE statement is used to delete records from a table. It removes all records from a table. The deletion of records is not logged to the transaction log. Since the WHERE clause is not included in the TRUNCATE TABLE statement, conditional deletion is not possible. The TRUNCATE TABLE statement uses fewer resources and hence works faster than the DELETE statement.

The syntax of the TRUNCATE TABLE statement is as follows:

TRUNCATE TABLE <table_name>
