The SmartNavigation attribute of the @ Page directive specifies a value indicating whether or not a page supports Internet Explorer 5.5 or later smart navigation features. It enhances a user’s experience of a Web page by performing the following actions:

  • It eliminates the flash caused by navigation.
  • It persists the scroll position when moving from page to page.
  • It persists the element focus between navigations.
  • It retains only the last page state in the browser’s history.
