What is the SELECT statement?

The SELECT statement is used to navigate the records in a database. A user can use the statement to accomplish the following:

  • Retrieve all the records from one or more tables, views.
  • Filter records as per the requirement.
  • Use aggregate functions to calculate data.
  • Create summary.
  • Sort the records.
