The Oracle HTTP Server processing model differs on UNIX or Linux and on Windows. When the Oracle HTTP server is started, it listens for connection requests and passes the same to the appropriate services.

In UNIX or Linux environment, several copies of the Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) control processes are launched by the control process to listen to user’s requests. These processes are called child processes. The main process runs as the root user and the child processes run as a less privileged user.

On Windows, there is a one control process and one child process only. There is a multithreaded implementation of the HTTP server process. Therefore, different child processes are part of a single child process.
