What is the NNTP protocol?

February 24th, 2007 by uCertify Leave a reply »

The NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol) is an Internet application protocol used primarily for reading and posting Usenet articles or netnews, as well as transferring news among news servers. NNTP is designed so that news articles are stored in a central database allowing a subscriber to select only those items he wishes to read. The well-known TCP port 119 is reserved for NNTP. When clients connect to a news server with SSL, TCP port 563 is used.
