What is the Microsoft Cluster Service?
Rating:
The Microsoft Cluster Service is one of the clustering technologies provided by Windows Server 2003. Unlike Network Load Balancing, it is an application sensitive service and can monitor the health of an application as well as the servers included in a cluster. It requires Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition or Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition to work. It supports a maximum of eight nodes in a cluster with the condition that beyond two nodes, each node is running the same version of the operating system. The server nodes running the Microsoft Cluster Service must be members of the same domain. It can monitor at the service level as well as at the server level. For this reason, administrators often prefer it for creating a clustered environment.
