What is the headSet() method of the NavigableSet interface?

Rating:

The headSet() method of the NavigableSet interface returns all the elements of a navigable set that are less than the element given in the parameter. There are two versions of the headSet() method as follows:

  • SortedSet<E> headSet(E toElement): This method returns the elements of the navigable set whose elements are strictly less than toElement.

  • NavigableSet<E> headSet(E toElement, boolean inclusive): This method returns the elements of the navigable set whose elements are less than or equal to the toElement. The toElement is included only if the value of inclusive is true.
The toElement element must be compatible with the navigable set's comparator. Also, it must implement the Comparable interface. It throws the NullPointerException if the toElement element is null and the given set does not permit null elements. It throws the IllegalArgumentException if the navigable set has a restricted range and toElement lies outside the bounds of the range.
