What is the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer tool?

The Exchange Best Practices Analyzer tool is used to assist to tune an Exchange installation, diagnose common misconfiguration issues with the intention of making Exchange function as efficiently as possible.

The Exchange Best Practices Analyzer tool can be configured to perform the following scans:

  1. Health check: This check is used to examine the Exchange environment for errors, warnings, and configuration settings that differ from the default.
  2. Permission check: This check is used to examine the Exchange administrative groups and the permissions assigned to Exchange servers, and reports on critical issues and settings that deviate from the installation defaults.
  3. Connectivity test: This check is used to test network connectivity.
  4. Baseline: This scan reports on all settings that differ from a user-configured baseline.
  5. Exchange 2007 readiness check: This check is used prior to an exchange deployment. It will highlight issues in the network infrastructure that may cause deployment problems.
