What is the DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER package?

Rating:

The DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER package contains procedures that are used to copy a binary file within a database or to transfer a binary file between databases. This package provides an advantage in Oracle 10g to move operating system files without physically logging into the operating system. The package moves the operating system files from one location to another within the current database host environment or between database hosts. Following are the main procedures of the DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER package:

  • COPY_FILE: It reads a local file and creates a copy of it in the local system.
  • GET_FILE: It contacts a remote database to read a remote file and then creates a copy of the file in the local file system.
  • PUT_FILE: It reads a local file and also contacts a remote database to create a copy of the file in the remote file system.
