What is the Background Eraser tool?

December 8th, 2007 by uCertify Leave a reply »

The Background Eraser tool is used to erase pixels in a layer to transparency as you drag through them. This tool enables you to erase the background while maintaining the edges of a foreground object.

The crosshair in the center of the brush samples the color and erases all the similar pixels within the circle of the brush to transparency. The tolerance level that you specify on the Options bar of the Background Eraser tool determines which pixels are actually erased, and to what degree. You can also control the sharpness of the boundaries by specifying different sampling options on the Options bar.

Note: The Background Eraser tool works even on the layer with locked transparency.
