The Microsoft Windows XP startup phase involves the following steps:
- Power-on self test (POST) phase
- Initial startup phase
- Boot loader phase
- Detect and configure hardware phase
- Kernel loading phase
- Logon phase
The above startup phases are different steps applied to the computer every time it is started or restarted after a normal shutdown. However, it does not apply when a computer resumes from hibernation or standby mode.
