The File Signing (Signcode.exe) tool is used to sign a portable executable (PE) file for a component or an assembly with an Authenticode digital signature. Following is the syntax for using Signcode.exe:

signcode [options] filename

where, filename specifies the name of the assembly or component to be signed, and the term options specifies the options to be used. Following are the options that are commonly used with Signcode.exe:

Option Description
$ It specifies the individual or commercial signing authority of the certificate.
c It specifies the file containing the encoded software publishing certificate (SPC).
cn It specifies the common name of the certificate.
k It specifies the name of the key container.
ky It specifies the type of the key. It can be signature, exchange, or an integer.
spc It specifies the SPC file containing the software publishing certificate.
v It specifies the name of the private key (.pvk) file containing the private key.

Note: Using Signcode.exe without specifying any option launches a wizard that helps with signing.
