What is lossy compression?

November 23rd, 2006 by uCertify Leave a reply »

Lossy compression is a technique in which some data is lost while compressing an audio or video file. It gives more priority in producing smaller files against the quality of the original data. Therefore, it does not maintain the integrity of the original file even after decompressing the file. This technique has a drawback that every time a file is saved in a lossy file format, some data gets lost even it is being saved in the same format. Another drawback is that the lost data cannot be recovered even after decompressing the file.
