What is Internet Connection Firewall (ICF)?

Rating:

A firewall is a security system that is used to protect a computer or internal networks against unauthorized access from the Internet. It acts as a wall between a company's network or intranet and the Internet. This security system is also found in Windows XP in the form of Internet Connection Firewall (ICF). Internet Connection Firewall is a software-based firewall that performs the same task as a firewall does. It is designed for use on computers that directly connect to the Internet. A user must enable it on such a computer and should not enable it on a computer that is not directly connected to the Internet. By enabling it on a computer, which is indirectly connected to the Internet, ICF can interfere with communications between the computer and other computers in the network.
