What is dependency?

November 25th, 2008 by uCertify Leave a reply »

Dependency is a relationship between the source and target elements. An element may depend on any other element or elements for its implementation. The source element cannot be completely specified without the target element.

As shown in the figure, an element can depend on a single or multiple elements. An independent element is not affected when the dependent element is changed, whereas changes in the independent element may or may not affect the dependent element. A dependency relationship is denoted by a dashed arrow in which the arrow is marked from a dependent to an independent element. The dependent element is also known as a client and the independent element is known as supplier. The name of the dependency can be mentioned on the top of the arrow.
