What is CDC in J2ME?

February 26th, 2007 by uCertify Leave a reply »

CDC stands for Connected Device Configuration (CDC). It is a framework for building Java ME applications on embedded devices ranging from pagers to set-top boxes. The CDC was developed under the Java Community Process as JSR 36 (CDC 1.0) and JSR 218 (CDC 1.1). It includes a full Java VM and a much larger set of core classes, so it requires more memory than the CLDC and a faster processor. The CDC is in fact a superset of the CLDC.

The typical requirements for CDC are 32-bit CPU, 2MB of RAM, and 2.5MB of ROM. It provides support for the following:

  1. Floating point numbers
  2. JNI (Java Native Interface)
  3. Weak Reference
  4. Object Serialization
  5. Reflection
