The Backward Explicit Congestion Notification (BECN) bit is part of the address field in the Frame Relay frame header. BECN bit is transmitted by the destination terminal. It notifies the sending device that there is congestion in the network. DCE devices set the value of the BECN bit to 1 in frames traveling in the opposite direction of frames with their FECN bit set. It minimizes the possibility that packets will be discarded when more packets arrive than handling limit.
