What is a thin client?

April 18th, 2006 by uCertify Leave a reply »

A thin client is a network computer that works without a hard disk drive. It acts as a simple terminal to the server and requires constant communication with the server. A thin client is designed in such a way that the bulk of data processing occurs on the server. The term thin client also refers to software used for network computers and Net PCs. It provides a desktop experience in environments where the end user has a well-defined and regular number of tasks for which the system is used. Thin clients are easier to install and hence are increasingly being used in medical offices, airline ticketing, schools, governments, manufacturing plants, and even call centers. They also offer a lower total cost of ownership over thick clients.
