What is a system temporary tablespace?

June 13th, 2009 by uCertify Leave a reply »

A system temporary tablespace is used by the database manager to perform various SQL operations such as sorting, reorganizing tables, creating indexes, and joining tables. A database must have at least one temporary tablespace. The maximum size of a temporary tablespace is 2 TB. DB2 supports both system temporary tablespaces and user temporary tablespaces. The user temporary tablespace is used for DECLARED TEMPORARY tables.
