What is a query-based distribution group?

Rating:

A query-based distribution group is a new type of distribution group that is included in Exchange Server 2003. Its functionality is similar to a standard distribution group except that instead of specifying the static user membership, it uses a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) query to dynamically assign membership in the distribution group. Administrators can easily create a mailing list for all mailbox-enabled users by using a query-based distribution group. Therefore, it consumes less time to use this method than to add the users to a standard distribution group. The use of a query-based distribution group is beneficial when the group membership changes frequently.
