What is a partitioned index?
Rating:
A partitioned index is an index that is broken down into smaller and more manageable pieces called partitions. Partitioning an index reduces the disk contention for index lookup and enhances the performance and scalability. Each partition of a partitioned index is allocated a segment. All partitions of a partitioned index share the same logical attributes. However, they can have different physical attributes based on tablespaces in which they reside.
