What is a MIDI file?

August 9th, 2009 by uCertify Leave a reply »

A MIDI file is a popular audio file format with MID or RIM extension. It is a complete digital file that does not contain recording of sounds, but it contains the instructions and the audio hardware uses to create the sound. The 3D video adapters use instructions and textures to create images, in the same way MIDI capable audio adapters use MIDI files as instructions to guide the synthesis of music. MIDI messages require lesser space than other sound file formats. It is easier to modify MIDI files than WAV files because it (MIDI) contains digital instructions. It represents a combination of separate channels; each channel represents a different musical instrument or type of sound. Each channel specifies the time duration and frequency of musical note of the musical instrument.
