What is a message digest?
Rating:
A message digest is a number, which is created algorithmically from a file and represents that file uniquely. If the file changes, the message digest also changes. It is a compact digital signature for an arbitrarily long stream of binary data. Is used to determine whether the file has been modified. Additionally, message digests also help to identify duplicate files.
