A mask layer is a special layer that is used to hide certain areas of underlying linked layers. To create a mask layer, a user places a mask item, which can be a filled shape, a type object, an instance of a graphic symbol, or a movie clip on the layer. The mask item acts as a window that reveals only the area of linked layer beneath the mask item. Multiple layers can be linked to a single mask layer. A mask layer can contain only one mask item. Also, a mask cannot be applied to another mask and cannot be inserted inside a button. A mask layer can be animation to produce dynamic effects.
