What is a Digital ID?
Rating:
A Digital ID is an electronic attachment used to verify the authenticity of the sender. It consists of two components, a private key and a public key. The private key is irreplaceable and is generally stored on the user's computer. The private key can be exported and imported on different computers in order to move a user's e-mail security settings from one computer to another. The public key, the other component of the digital ID, can be sent by a user to persons from whom the user wants to receive the encrypted messages. A user can attach a digital ID with the message being sent, in order to ensure the recipient that the message has come from an authentic source.
