What is JTWI?

JTWI stands for Java Technology for the Wireless Industry (JSR 185). It is a combination of the following specifications:

  • JSR 30
  • JSR 118
  • JSR 120
  • JSR 135

JSR 30 defines CLDC, which provides KVM, networking capabilities, and J2SE packages to build J2ME applications.

JSR 118 defines MIDP 2.0, which provides user interface, persistent storage, etc., to mobile applications.

JSR 120 defines WMA 1.1, which provides wireless text messaging through Java applications.

JSR 135 is an optional specification. It defines MMAPI 1.1(Multimedia API), which is required to support audio, video, and other multimedia facilities on resource constraint devices, such as mobile phones, PDAs, etc.
