What are the limitations of Exchange Migration Wizard?

Rating:

Following are the limitations of Exchange Migration Wizard:

  1. It does not clean up mailboxes in the source organization while migrating user accounts to another organization. As a result, the original mailboxes in the source domain continue to receive messages even after the migration process is over.

  2. It cannot migrate mailboxes in the same Exchange organization.

  3. It does not preserve Access Control Lists (ACLs).

  4. It cannot migrate personal mail archives or personal address books.

  5. It cannot migrate distribution lists, Inbox rules, or public folders.
The amount of administrative work required after migration depends upon which tool has been used to perform migration. If Active Directory Migration Wizard is used to migrate user accounts to a new domain, users will simply need to log on to the new domain with the same user names and passwords that they used earlier, and create new mail profiles that point Outlook to the new Exchange Server 2003 server. If Exchange Migration Wizard is used, Active Directory user accounts will need to be reconfigured by enabling them and connecting each of them to its corresponding mailbox.
