Java security provides a Java platform as a secure, ready-built platform on which to run Java-enabled applications in a secure fashion. The following are the elements of the Java security policy:

  1. Bytecode verifier: It ensures that Java class files follow the rules of the Java language. The bytecode verifier helps enforce memory protections for all Java programs.
  2. Class loader: It sets permissions for each class it loads.
  3. Access controller: It allows the access of the core API to the operating system, based upon policies set by the end user or system administrator.
  4. Security manager: It works as a primary interface between the core API and the operating system. It has the ultimate responsibility for allowing or preventing access to all system resources.
  5. Security package: It allows a user to add security features to an application as well as providing the basis by which Java classes may be signed.
  6. Key database: It is a set of keys that are used by the security infrastructure to create or verify digital signatures.
