What are the drawbacks of HTML?

HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language. It is a set of markup symbols or code used to create Web pages and define formatting specifications. The markup tells the Web browser how to display the content of the Web page. HTML has the following drawbacks:

  1. Password Protection: In HTML, it is not possible to provide password protection for a Web page or directory. Password protection is a bit of a complicated process. Most Web servers have password protection of some type built right in, but unless the hosting provider has made it available to the user, it is not possible to use it.
  2. Protection of source and images: It is possible for readers of an HTML Web page to view the source or right-click on images. HTML cannot protect the source or images of an HTML page. Only one line of JavaScript is needed to block both right-clicking and accessing the right-click menu from the keyboard. However, it does not block viewing the source or downloading images in other ways.
  3. Image change on mouse roll over: It is not possible for HTML to change images or text when the mouse rolls over. This can be done only if HTML is used with JavaScript. It is possible to use CSS to change the text color when your mouse rolls over it. MouseOver is one of the most common scripts used on web pages. In this script, one image is replaced by another when the mouse cursor is moved over the image and changed back when the mouse moves off.
  4. Open a link in a New Window: It is not possible for HTML to open a link in a new, differently sized window. This can be done by using JavaScript. It is possible for the readers of a Web page to stay on the same page that they are at, even if they click on a link. However, many Web sites open a new window whenever a user clicks on a link external to their site. It is possible to open a new window when a reader clicks on a link by using a function that came from frames or by JavaScript.
