The following are the disadvantages of using a query string client-based technique:

  • The contents in a query string are directly visible to any users via a Web browser. A user can tamper with a particular query string by book marking a specified URL or sending it to other users. Hence, hidden fields should be considered in a Web form if a user is concerned about a sensitive data in a query string.
  • Some Web browsers and client devices of new versions can limit the length of URLs to 2083 characters.
