What are the different software restriction policy levels?

Rating:

A software restriction policy is created through the MMC Group Policy snap-in. A policy consists of default level that allows or disallows software to run, and exceptions to this level. Windows Vista has the following three software restriction policy levels:

  • Unrestricted:It allows a specific software to run with full user rights of a currently logged on user.
  • Disallowed.: It disallows all software from running on a computer unless an exception is created for a software under the Addition rules node.
  • Basic User : It is a new level in Windows Vista. It allows all the programs to run as standard user, i.e. without any administrative privileges. If a software requires administrative privilege or initiates UAC prompt, this level will not allow it to run.
