It provides a bridge over naming and directory services.
It provides a common interface to different directories.
It provides a single API to access all types of directory services.
It isolates applications from protocol and implementation details.
It links different types of directories.
It is independent of any specific implementation.
It allows the J2EE application to synchronize with applications and systems.
