What are the basic rules that apply to all the IP address schemes?
Rating:
There are certain rules that apply to all the IP address schemes. The rules are described as follows:
- An IP address cannot start or end with a zero. A zero can be used only in the middle of the address.
- The loopback address (127.x.y.z) is a reserved address and cannot be used for connecting to the other resources on the Internet or another subnet on the network.
- Each computer in each subnet must have a unique TCP/IP address, though duplicate IP addresses are allowed in different subnets.
- When an IP address is assigned, an associated subnet mask must also be assigned.
- An IP address for a particular class must fall within the defined range.
