What are NetBIOS names?

Rating:

NetBIOS names are based on a protocol called Network Basic Input/Output System, which allows users to establish connections on the network or across networks. These names are used on computers with older operating systems such as Windows NT, 98, Me, etc. In the NetBIOS environment, each computer is assigned a NetBIOS name, which consists of up to sixteen characters. The first fifteen characters denote the actual name of the computer and the last one is reserved for representing different resources or services offered by the computer.
