What are inherited permissions?
Rating:
By default, when a parent folder is assigned NTFS permissions, the permissions also propagate or apply to the subfolders and files that are either already within the parent folder or have been newly created within the parent folder. The permissions applied on the subfolders in this way are called inherited permissions. When an administrator assigns NTFS permissions to a folder, all existing subfolders and files or newly created folders and files with the parent folder inherit the permissions of the parent folder. A user can prevent automatic propagation of NTFS permissions to subfolders and files within the parent folder. The directory or folder level on which the user decides to prevent the default NTFS permission inheritance becomes the new parent folder for NTFS permission inheritance.
