Data files are operating system files that store the data of all logical structures, such as tables, indexes, etc., in a database. A data file can belong to only one tablespace in a database. However, a tablespace can contain multiple data files. A data file can be created at the time of database or tablespace creation. It can also be created after database or tablespace creation.
