What are archive redo log files?

Archive redo log files are the filled groups of online redo log files that are saved to one or more offline destinations. Archiving is the process of turning online redo logs into archived redo logs. The ARCn background process automates archiving operations. An archived redo log file is a copy of one of the identical filled members of an online redo log group.
