Oracle does not recommend using the SORT_AREA_SIZE parameter to enable automatic sizing of SQL working areas, unless the instance is configured with the shared server option. However, the PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET parameter is recommended. The SORT_AREA_SIZE parameter is retained for backward compatibility.
