Rating:
CompTIA has specified more than thirty objectives for CompTIA test SK0-002, which are grouped under seven topics. Following are some important areas in which an individual should possess good knowledge before taking the SK0-002 test:
- Planning and verifying the installation, hardware compatibility, power sources, space, UPS and network availability etc.
- Installing and upgrading UPS. Verifying power-on via power-on sequence, SCSI ID configuration, and termination.
- Checking and upgrading BIOS.
- Configuring RAID and updating manufacturer specific drivers.
- Installing Network Operating System (NOS). Configuring network and verifying network connectivity.
- Installing service tools such as SNMP, backup software, system monitoring agents etc.
- Performing and reviewing server baseline and document server configuration.
- Performing full backup and verifying backup.
- Adding processors and performing operating system upgrade to support multiprocessors. Confirming that upgrade has been recognized.
- Adding hard disk drives and verifying the types of hard disk drives. For ATA/IDE drives, confirming cabling, master/slave and potential cross-brand compatibility. For SCSI drives, confirming termination and cabling.
- Implementing ESD best practices.
- Adding drives to array and replacing existing hard disk drives.
- Increasing RAM. Verifying that hardware and operating system support for capacity increase, memory is on hardware/vendor compatibility list, and server and OS recognize the added memory.
- Upgrading adapters such as NICs, SCSI cards, RAID, etc. Verifying appropriate system resources expansion slots, IRQ, DMA, etc.
- Performing regular backups. Creating baseline and comparing performance.
- Setting SNMP thresholds and establishing remote notification.
- Recognizing and reporting on physical security issues such as limiting access to server room and backup tapes, ensuring physical locks are on doors, and lock server racks.
- Recognizing and reporting on server room environmental issues such as temperature, humidity, ESD, power surges, back-up generator etc.
- Assisting in problem determination using questioning techniques. Using senses to observe problems such as detection of smoke, observation of unhooked cables, etc.
- Using diagnostic hardware and software tools and utilities.
- Identifying and correcting bottlenecks, misconfigurations, hardware, software, and virus-related issues.
- Planning for disaster recovery. Configuring redundancy for hard disk drives, power supplies, NICs, processors etc.
- Identifying types of backup, backup hardware, and restoration schemes.
