Take the following steps to install an RMI application:

  1. Place the following files on the server:
    1. Remote Interface (Factorial.java)
    2. Remote object (FactorialImpl.java)
    3. Server (FactorialServer.java)

Compile all the files by using the javac command.

  2. On the server, generate the stubs and skeleton for the remote object. Use the command line “rmic FactorialImpl”. It generates FactorialImpl_Stub.class and FactorialImpl_Skel.class.
  3. Start the rmiregistery program on the server. For starting rmiregistery on the server with a port number, use the command line “rmiregistery 1099 &”.
  4. Start the server on the server computer. The command line for this application is “java FactorialServer &”.
  5. Place the client program (FactorialClient.java), Remote interface (Factorial.java), and the client stub (FactorialImpl_Stub.class) on the client computer. Compile the client program and interface on the client computer.
  6. Start the application on the client computer (java FactorialClient).
