How to import tables from a Microsoft Access database?

Take the following steps to import tables from a Microsoft Access database:

  1. Run Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 from Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio.

  2. In the Start Page window, go to File > New > Project.

  3. In the New Project dialog box, select the Integration Services Project. Change the name, location, name of the solution in the Name, Location, Solution Name respectively. Click the OK button.

  4. In the Solution Explorer, right-click the SSIS Packages folder, and click the SSIS Import and Export Wizard.

  5. On the Welcome to SQL Server Import and Export Wizard page, click the Next button.

  6. On the Choose a Data Source page, select Microsoft Access from the Data source list.

  7. On the Choose a Data Source page, click the Browse button.

  8. In the Open dialog box, select the .mdb file, and click the Open button.

  9. On the Choose a Data Source page, the path of the file will be displayed in the File name field. Click the Next Button.

  10. On the Choose a Destination page, select Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server from the Data source list.

  11. On the Choose a Destination page, select the database to which tables from the Microsoft Access database will be copied.

  12. On the Specify Table Copy or Query page, select the Copy data from one or more tables or views option.

  13. On the Select Source Tables and Views page, select the required tables and views.

  14. On the Complete the Wizard page, click the Finish button.

  15. On the ‘The execution was successful’ page, click the Close button.

  16. In the IntegrationServicesProject1 window, right-click Package.dtsx, and click the Execute Package option.

  17. In order to view whether or not the tables have been copied to the database, go to Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > SQL Server Management Studio.

  18. In the Connect to Server window, click the Connect button.

  19. In the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio window, double-click the Databases folder.

  20. In the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio window, double-click the database where the tables are saved. Here, the database is MyData.

  21. In the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio window, double-click the Tables folder.

  22. In the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio window, all the tables that are copied from the Microsoft Access database will be visible.
