Take the following steps to configure visual effects on a computer running Windows XP:

  1. Run Control Panel from Start menu > Control Panel.




  2. In the Control Panel window, select Performance and Maintenance. (If Control Panel is configured to show the Category view)




  3. In the Performance and Maintenance window, select System.




  4. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced button.




  5. On the Advanced tab page of the System Properties dialog box, click the Settings button in the Performance section.




  6. On the Visual Effects tab page of the Performance Options dialog box, select the appropriate radio button to apply a setting on the computer, and click the OK button.
