How does a Web page or a content page is attached to a master page?

Rating:

The following are the techniques by which a Web page or a content page is attached to a master page:

  • The @ Page directive can be used in a Web page to bind to a master page. For example:

    <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="MyMasterPage.master" %>

  • By setting the <pages> element in an application's configuration file i.e. the Web.config file, all the .aspx pages of the application automatically bind to a specific master page. This is possible only when all the Web pages contain Content controls that are merged with the specified master page. The following example shows how the <pages> element is set in the Web.config file:

    <pages masterPageFile="MyMasterPage.master" />
