The cursor datatype is used to store the variables or OUTPUT parameters that reference a cursor. Any variable assigned to a cursor datatype is nullable. The variables having a cursor datatype can be referenced by the following operations:
- DECLARE, OPEN, FETCH, CLOSE, or DEALLOCATE CURSOR statements
- Stored procedure OUTPUT parameters
- The CURSOR_STATUS function
- sp_cusrsorlist, sp_describe_cursor, sp_describe_cursor_tables, sp_describe_cursor_columns system stored procedures
